“TOP 10 WARDROBE ESSENTIALS”

“WARDROBE MUST HAVES”

“MY 5 FAVOURITE THINGS TO WEAR”

“HOW TO DRESS GOOD”

We’ve all clicked on and read these articles, scrolling quickly through the top ten, top five, or even top three pieces of clothing which WE MUST HAVE in our wardrobe.

We use this as a checklist. Black tee, “yep, I have one!” Skinny black jeans, “yep, I have them too!” Gucci flip flops, “ehh…”

It seems that the further you go down the list however, the more ridiculous and expensive these items become.

You must have this specific black tee with the little red face on the front, you know the one I’m talking about. It’s a must have. Alright, but it’s also €90 for a T-shirt, what about that part?

Like I said, these lists are only suggestions. We are really being sold the brand or logo, but that’s a conversation for another day.

Simply put, we need to have staple pieces in our wardrobe which we can use at all times.

Take the plain black tee for example, it’s ideal, but you can find them in Primark. €3. Treat yo’ self and buy two!

White works too, and maybe grey. Skinny black jeans, white runners, a button-down shirt… the list is endless, but TOP TEN MUST HAVES is more eye catching. Are we really going to read something called ‘My Wardrobe’ because I know that I ain’t.

Sticking to neutral colours and classic styles will always win, as these garments can be dressed up with standout pieces bought especially for the occasion. Or they can be simply styled by themselves.

Black tee and jeans is another winner, and on its own, it’s a good look. Throw on a dark blazer. It’s still a good look. Try a leather jacket, it’s still a good look. It’s what you can do with these simple pieces that matters.

The choice is yours but the key thing to remember is that these items are already in your wardrobe. And usually, they can be purchased on the cheap because everyone wants to have them.

This is something that I have been noticing more and more recently with my own wardrobe. A lot of my go-to and most used items are block colours, simple styles, lack heavy patterns, and are easy to wear. Of course, I have the standouts, I have the frills, but they’re all in the attic.

Essentially, what I’m saying is, own less but buy better. So, what’s in your wardrobe?
